Troop Historian
Job Description: The Troop Historian keeps a historical
record and scrapbook of Troop activities.
Historian Duties:
- Gather pictures and facts about past Troop activities and keeps them in a historical
file or scrapbook
- Takes care of trophies, ribbons, and souvenirs of Troop activities
- Keeps information about former members of the Troop
- Sets a good example
- Enthusiastically wears the uniform correctly
- Lives by the Scout Oath and Law
- Shows Scout spirit
Introduction: When you accepted the position of Historian,
you agreed to provide service and leadership in our Troop. That responsibility should be
fun and rewarding. This job description provides some of the things you are expected to do
while serving as a junior leader in Troop 67. You should make any necessary notes on this
sheet as this Fast-Start Junior Leader Training session is conducted. As a Troop 67 Junior
Leader you will be challenged to your fullest capabilities. The adult leadership has faith
in your leadership abilities, but will constantly be striving to improve those abilities.
Your selection and acceptance of this Troop position represents the acceptance of a
contract. At the end of this Fast-Start Junior Leader Training you will be asked to sign a
contract indicating that you understand your responsibilities and will constantly strive
to live up to your Job Description. Good Luck and Congratulations.
Troop Procedures:
- The Troop Historian is responsible for starting and maintaining a Troop Scrapbook
consisting of summaries of all Troop activities and the individuals that were in
attendance at those activities. In the event that the Historian is unable to attend an
activity he will designate an individual to complete the summary. In addition to being
placed in the Troop scrapbook, all activity summaries will be published in the Troop
newsletter.
- The Troop Historian is responsible for maintaining a Troop Photo album. If the Historian
is unable to locate a camera for Troop activities, he should make arrangements with the
adult leaders. The Troop Photo album should also contain captions with the activities,
dates, and individuals in the pictures.
- The Troop Historian is finally responsible for starting and maintaining the first ever
Troop 67 "Patch Quilt" consisting of all patches of all activities that the
Troop has been involved with. At the present moment the Troop has well over 50 patches
that will represent the start of the "Patch Quilt".
Resources: As a Troop Scribe their many resources
available to you to help you do your job. These include people such as your Scoutmaster,
Assistant Scoutmaster, and Troop Committee Members. Troop 67 offers a wealth of Scouting
knowledge ranging from experience to literature to Internet resources. Please, take
advantage of these abundant resources in order to better carry out your Troop position.
